:an update:

I presented the refined logos and some layout concepts for the website to Dr. O'Connor this afternoon. He was pretty pleased with the overall look the website is taking, so we are moving forward!

It is time to put some mock ups together and try a few scenarios. I'm really excited about learning more about website design but most of all, about exploring the Mobile app development/design. Sure I won't end up being an expert on the subject once the project is completed, but gaining some knowledge and being exposed to the subject won't hurt the resume!

an Internship...

It's been about four weeks since I started my professional internship with Arts Weekly, a weekly television program hosted by Dr. Charles O'Connor, Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at IPFW.

The sketching and research has been fun so far. I've discovered that even the simplest shapes arranged in a certain way can end up being the exact sort of thing a client is looking for in terms of a logo or website layout.
I came across this phrase during my research, so I wrote it down on my sketch book to keep me focus (sorry, I failed to record the source): Trying to reinvent the wheel isn’t only hopeless, but it’s unnecessary.

I presented my logo concepts to Dr. O'Connor this afternoon. A lot of excitement flowing through my veins for sure! I'm really happy he was pleased with the concepts. We ended up with a final two that need just a little work, but we are almost there... Arts Weekly has [almost] a new logo!

... update

Sharing my solution to the "empty wall" problem.

{Yes, I take my time to show the final product...}

a little touch

the idea of stenciling my bedroom wall came to me quite some time ago.
and i'm happy to see that idea finally shaping up.
it's not exactly finalized, but i am loving the look already!
a couple more shapes in a different color shade will give me the look i ambition.

i was inspired by a wallpaper pattern i found while researching about wallpaper how-to's. after reading so much about how 'hard' it would be to apply wallpaper on my uneven walls, many pros and cons about different techniques, and after realizing the amount of money i had to spend just to cover one wall... the stenciling idea appeared to be more suitable.

here is my progress so far, incorporating vintage shapes, which i find quite beautiful:

the making of a portfolio - final product

I should have posted these pictures long time ago... better late than never I guess.
It is so rewarding to look back at the time when I worked on this and feel so accomplished and proud of my work. Work that made me a recipient of the LaBov & Beyond Visual Arts Achievement Scholarship last year.
Despite the intense hours I spent on this, I would definitely do it all over again if I had to. No doubt.

falling in love with watercolor

A little bit of inspiration on this beautiful Saturday afternoon...

Conrad Roset is undoubtedly a very talented artist whose work I absolutely adore.

portfolio-website... a work in process.

It's a happy feeling to see my portfolio-website finally taking form.
The design for all the navigation is pretty much done, but going live is what is taking so long...  Hurray for CSS :)

[ sketchbook ]

i am on a mission... i will design/build my very own sketch/research book. i've had this idea for quite some time now, so today i decided that it's time to finally start.
and what a better way to do so, than getting some inspiration from one of the most amazing and fascinating sketchbooks i have ever seen -- Guillermo del Toro's sketchbook for the movie Pan's Labyrinth. although my sketchbook might not be quite as fascinating, i will embrace it as mr. del Toro embraces his... of that i am very sure. stayed tuned and please, ask me about it once in a while!

watercolor affair

For the last few months I've been going ga-ga for watercolors. It all started in my illustration class when I gave a try to watercolor techniques in Photoshop. The more I saw during my research, the more I liked. I think watercolors and I have finally reconciled and I'm so tempted to get those tubes out of the drawer and paint again... Acrylic paint, don't you feel bad. You are still my number one!

So for the last project in my Graphic Design class, I used a watercolor technique to illustrate a clothing line for girls. I chose to design dresses inspired by my favorite fruits and their blossoms. Now, if I could only know how to sew...

wrapped up

I've been struggling with the design of my future portfolio-website for the last couple of months... Sometimes I get so wrapped up in an idea that I forget the most basic principle....

back to the basics...

Illustration can be quite frustrating for me. It's been twelve weeks since the semester started and sometimes I wish Photoshop was as 'easy' as it appears...

Craftsmanship to talk about

I am always reminded of how strong my craftsmanship is. I don't want to sound like a big show-off, but I have to admit that when it comes to creating things with my hands, my ability can be impressive. I've always had high standards when it comes to my handmade work, and it certainly feels good to receive nice compliments from time to time.
Today, I was reminded of this project I did for my Package Design class last year. A 100% handmade box for a beautiful traditional Mexican dress that was handmade as well. We got it in one of our visits as we were getting ready to take off at the airport. Since the little girl has grown and cannot wear it anymore, it had been in the closet for quite a while. When I learned about the assignment to design a package for any type of clothing, I could not think of a better item!
As everything, I can't wait to take the time to improve it.

txt n drive!

I never thought I would be promoting texting and driving... The idea sounds scary, but the challenge for such concept is something to be exciting about. I am having fun with this project already.  And no, I haven't started to text while driving as part of my research!

Here is the first draft for the logo.

My idea is to create a logo that conveys the texting concept right away. The talk bubbles are icons that people associate with conversation right away and by incorporating the texting lingo in them I believe I make my point clearly: Text and Drive people!

After the first logo was selected, the whole PSA campaign looks like this:

Direct Mail. Flat size: 14 x 5 inches. Finish size: 7 x 5 inches.

Theater Department Poster

Excited about this project... An illustration for the University's theater department.
I couldn't wait to post a snippet!

More to come...

As it is the case with the blog design. I felt like doing some 'cleaning' around!

Bento what?

I just discovered the "Bentoing" thing... While I go nuts about the idea, I wonder where have I been???
Whoever came up with this idea is a genius. I can see my kiddos having a blast eating their lunches while mommy has a blast putting them together.
It is time to find out more about the whole concept!

I'm back!

It feels like I've been absent forever... It is time to get back and create exciting things!
Spring semester looks good so far - taking two classes only, so I'm excited about the extra time.

First project for GD IV class: concept for a 'Reality TV show', teaming up with two other classmates. The whole campaign consisted of Billboards, Print Ads, Website and a Marketing Kit with DVD. I took charge of this last one, which came out pretty strong. I had so much fun and absolutely loved it!

... Yes, I had fun not only with the design, but with the whole presentation as well!
